Abstract

The parent patent showed a wine making vessel of rectangular, horizontal cross-section. The base of the vessel has a longitudinal open topped channel contg. a conveyor screw to discharge marc etc., hinged to >=1 of the top edges of the channel is a pivoting wall which can be moved by vertical reciprocation of a od or system of rods. A horizontal, openwork grill is now fixed to the rod or rods at the level of the cake of marc in the vessel. The stationary grill helps to maintain marc cake formation while up and down movement of the grill breaks up the marc. The grill is pref. made up of longitudinal and cross members which cover the horizontal cross-section of the vessel. The grill helps to keep the cake of marc intact while juice drains separately away. Reciprocation of the grill can then be used to break up the marc cake into small pieces which are easily discharged by the screw conveyor.
