Abstract

Process and installation for atomising a liq. into a gas, uses an atomiser which is supplied with gas and a liq. under pressure. A programmed controller allows liq. to be supplied to the atomiser only when the atomiser is already being supplied with gas. The gas and liq. can both be at the same pressure or at different pressures. Atomisation can take place into a stationary atmos. of gas or into a moving current of gas. Filtered, pref. sterile, air is supplied pref. directly to the atomiser as well as to two pressure vessels contg. liq. which is displaced from one vessel under pressure to the atomiser. Controller actuates solenoid valves so that the gas is supplied to the atomiser before liq. and continues briefly after liq. supply has been stopped. Atomiser is pref. located in a duct carrying conditioned air at a flow rate >15m/s. Used to spray a liq. e.g. water and/or disinfectant, into sterile, conditioned air for laboratories and surgical operating theatres, etc. Atomiser functions satisfactorily in ducted air currents with flow rates >10m/s. which is the top liit for rotary sprays.
