Abstract

The face seal for a rotating shaft (1) consists of a fixed ring (8) forming a rubbing face for the ring (2) of low friction material. This low friction ring is assembled in a housing (4) with a flexible ring (3). Two rigid rings (5, 12) are embedded in the flexible ring and have sockets for compression springs (10). There are a number of these springs equally spaced around the rings rigid so that a uniformly distributed axial pressure is exerted on the low friction ring and fixed ring. This ensures a perfect seal which is suitable for high pressure use.
