Abstract

Pigmentation of paper pulp with organic pigments is effected by forming the pigments in situ in the pulp from an aminoplast foam. Pref. the foam is formed continuously just before its incorporation in the pulp, pref. from an aminoplast resin syrup comprising a urea/formaldehyde precondensate in the ration HCHO/urea of 1-2.5. Pref. the precondensate is modified with e.g. melamine, thiourea, guanidine or dicyanamide. For improving retention of fillers and fibres and the draining rate of the pulp. The obtd. rate is uniformly coloured, has improved opacity and improved dry and wet strength.
