Abstract

1374506 Laminates CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 3 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 50814/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Decorative and overlay papers for laminates are impregnated with an aminoplast resin modified by adding to it before during or after its condensation 1 - phenylethane - 1 : 2 - diol in amount 0À5-25 wt. per cent of the modified resin. Suitable aminoplasts are condensates of urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, acetoguanamine, benzoguanamine or melamine with formaldehyde or acetaldehyde. In Examples 1, 3 and 5 melamine is condensed with formalin, phenylethanediol, sorbitol and sucrose at alkaline pH in molar proportions approximately 1 : 2-2À5 : 0À07-0À13 : 0À02-0À05 : 0À03. The solution is used to impregnate paper which is used as decorative surface paper for chip-board or as decorative and overlay papers for a 9-ply laminate of phenol - formaldehyde impregnated Kraft papers.
