Abstract
551,127. Compound sheet materials ; aminoplast synthetic resins. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Aug. 18, 1941, No. 10500. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1940. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] Laminating materials are made by subjecting to heat and pressure superposed layers of fibrous material, e.g. fabric, paper or felt and glass fabric all impregnated with an aminoplast resin. The glass fabric may be woven, knitted, felted or braided and includes thin formaminous glass sheets. Suitable resins are urea- or-thiourea-formaldehyde, dicyandiamideformaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde condensation products. A suitable melamine modified dicyandiamide formaldehyde resin is made as described in Specification 549,705. A mixed melamine-urea-formaldehyde resin is made by heating a solution of melamine in aqueous formaldehyde at 65‹C. adding urea and continuing heating to form a clear stable syrup. A urea-thiourea formaldehyde resin syrup is made by refluxing a solution of thiourea in aqueous formaldehyde, adding a solution of triethylamine and urea and heating at 40‹C. and finally adding a solution of salicylic acid as a latent hardening catalyst. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use as a moulding composition of disintegrated impregnated glass cloth alone or associated with impregnated paper or fabric. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
