Abstract

The brass connector (9) for a fibre optic cable (f) is cylindrical having a through passage for the cable and differing dia. portions (11,14) separated by an external screw threaded portion (74). A respective annular groove (23,32) is formed adjacent each end of the connector having wall thicknesses of 0.4 and 0.3 mm in the 1.5mm and 0.5mm walls of the differing dia. portions (11,14). A cylindrical tube (51) of a tool is screwed onto the screw-threaded portion (4) and is submerged at each end by caps (58,77) through which the cable (f) passes. As each cap (58, 77) is screwed onto the tube (51) they force respective internal press rings (62,79) against the connector ends. Thus deforming the thin walls of the grooves (22,-32) into gripping engagement with the cable (f). The ring (79) adjacent the connector reduced dia. end (14) has an annular chisel-shaped end (86) which bites into the connector end to provide a further gripping deformation. Each press ring (62,79) is in two halves for easy removal from the cable (f).
