Abstract
The space between the panes of double-glazed windows supported in sealed frames is filled with a gas injected via a hollow needle to displace air which is exhausted via another hollow needle inserted at the opposite corner of the frame. Esp. claimed for priming the interstitial space with SF6 to a concentration of 80% as indicated by a special thermo-electric detector. The holes made by the needles, which are >=3 mm diam., are subsequently plugged with a hot-melt material pref. based on butyl and/or polyisobutylene rubber, silicone rubber or polysulphide, pref. partly filled with carbon black and ground molecular sieve material. Pref. gps. of windows are filled simultaneously by a multi-branch gas manifold and detector system.
