Abstract

Doubled glazed windows are assembled by mounting the glass panels on each side of a flush frame comprising a hollow impermeable rigid profile slotted on the face surrounding the space between the panes. The frame is loaded with a desiccant such as dehydrated molecular sieve. The desiccant frame is bonded to the glass panels and to a supporting structural frame by suitable sealant adhesives or mastic. The desiccant contg. sub frame may be made of lengths of a metallic or plastics (polyethylene) profile, pref. assembled with welded corner joints. The profile may be prefilled with desiccant, opt. cut to size and perforated as required to suit any size of window, or prepared in standard lengths enclosed in a sealed bag. Opt. the desiccant frame is enclosed in a sheath of butyl rubber or set into a mastic of cold-cured polychloroprene rubber. By supporting desiccant all round the window border, a large amt. of desiccant can be included using a relative non-obtrusive holder.
