Abstract

An industrial, mixing and extn. vessel has the form of a horizontal, barrel-shaped cylindrical drum which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis. The vessel is diametrically bellied, centrally, between two sections which converge conically towards the ends of the vessel. The bellied section has a man-hole for loading the vessel and through which solids can be discharged. Diametrically opposite the manhole is an outlet connection for liq. which is first passed through a screen inside the vessel. Mixing elements inside the vessel are pref. limited to a set of spaced, parallel, stainless steel cables extending parallel to the axis of the vessel and deflector blades which direct solids towards the manhole at each revolution. The vessel can pref. be rotated in either direction and its contents may be processed in controlled atmos of CO2 etc. The contents of the vessel are thoroughly homogenised with only gentle agitation produced by rotation of the vessel. Automatically self-discharge from the manhole eliminates arduous and possibly hazardous manual forking.
