Abstract

The horizontal vat has a large manhole in its circumferential wall and is mounted on rollers and mechanised for rotation about is longitudinal axis to facilitate loading and emptying operations, as well as access for maintenance, via the manhole. Vat is used in wine-making operations including fermentation, storage, macerating, straining etc. Considerable economies in manpower are possible compared with the usual, vertical vat, which is more cumbersome, difficult to maintain, to load and to empty.
