Abstract

A suspension requiring filtration is fed by pressure from an inlet manifold into the bores of several successive gps. of porous tubes, where the number of tubes in each gp. is progressively reduced towards an exit manifold fitted with a choke valve. The gps. of tubes are located in one or more chambers possessing outlet holes for the filtrate. The choke valve is pref. fitted with a pressure controller; and a constriction in the last porous tube may be used instead of a choke valve. In either case, the object is to maintain the pressure on the suspension, while ensuring sufficient flow through the tubes, so the latter do not become blocked by the solids in the suspension. Each gp. of tubes may be located in a separate chamber, each of the latter possessing an inlet- and exit- manifold. Used for removal of solid matter from liqs. or gases.
