Abstract

The various cylindrical filter elements can be connected in series and/or paralle and are graded in crossectional area form the larger elements at the upstream end to the smaller downstream elements at whose ends are drainage cocks for solid material retained within those elements together with that dislodged from the walls of the larger elements above them. The transition from series to parallel operation and vice versa is achieved by opening and closing those drain cocks, hydraulically by changes in back pressures in the two parallel series connected sets. Versatility in terms of mass flow handling capacity and degree of solid contamination.
