Abstract

During fencing, the swordsmen use an electric contact which allows touches by the sword to be indicated by red or green lights. To avoid cheating by use of a wire under the clothes, a detector system is employed which injects on alternating current into the circuit via the breast plate to sense impedance changes. An oscillator (4) is coupled via an isolating transformer (5) and capacitor (7) to the guard (2) of a fencing sword in order to inject an alternating current. The transformer is coupled via a resistor (6) to the breast plate (1) of the swordsman. The resistor is adjustable to allow the current to be set. A measuring circuit comprising a resistor (9)is connected to the transformer and to an amplifier (8) to monitor the oscillator consumption. A detector circuit (3) with rejection filters (11, 12, 13, 14) records the touches by the swords.
