Abstract

The slabs are pushed stepwise into the furnace, and a prescribed distance is employed between the rear end of one slab and the front end of the next slab entering the furnace. After each slab has been pushed through the inlet door of the furnace, the door is closed, and a walking beam is employed to transport the slabs through the furnace. The inlet door is only opened and the slab pusher actuated after measuring the width of a new slab and ensuring that the walking beam has provided the prescribed distance or space between the last slab in the furnace and the new slab. Used for reheating of slabs, ingots and billets. Heat losses through the inlet door are minimised.
