Abstract
PURPOSE: To heat slab with small energy consumption and without forming flaws, by, in heating the slab having been continuously cast and hot charged to a heating furnace to a rolling temp., operating entry beams elongated deep into the furnace together with fixed and movable skid beams.
CONSTITUTION: A slab made by continuous casting process is heated by hot-charging in a heating furnace to a rolling temp. without cooling to ordinary temp. In the heating furnace are arranged fixed skid beams 4 for conveying the slab, and movable skid beams 5 alternately in the direction of furnace breadth, and plural entry beams 17 are installed from the outside in front of the heating furnace through the entrance deep into the furnace. The slab is placed on a roller table 6 at the entrance, raised by an elevator 27 of the entry beams 17, then moved forward by both skid beams 4, 5 along the rails 24 of the entry beams 17. The entry beams 17 are raised to a position higher than the supporting surface of the movable skid beams 5, hereby the slab is conveyed smoothly in the furnace without forming back flaws.
