Abstract
There are two wheel-sets on each bogie mounting on the rail vehicle with rack and pinion drive, with a gearwheel between the two wheels in each set. There is an intervening wheel-set drive mechanism and a longitudinally mounted motor, together with a brake mechanism between the gearwheel and second running wheel. On running-wheels (9, 9a) subjected to greatest loads on downhill running, resulting from brake-originated longitudinal tilt moments, and motor (14) generated transverse tilt moments, the stationary wheel pressures exceed those of the other wheels (8, 8a) by predetermined amts. This produces an increase in the safety factor preventing derailment.
