Abstract

The plumber's vice has a symmetrical 'V' sectioned fixed jaw (7, 8) and utilises a round section movable jaw (17) on a rocking lever (11) actuated by a screw jack (13, 18, 19). The axis of the movable jaw is parallel to the apex of the fixed jaw, and the active faces of all jaws may have contiguous 'V' section grooving (7a) also parallel to this axis. The fixed jaw sections (7, 8) may subtend an angle of 60 deg., the contact point (A) of the movable jaw lying on the fixed jaw bisectrice (x, y) over a wide range of pipe sizes. A half round part serrated block may be positioned in the fixed jaw to provide a plane counter surface at diverse inclinations.
