Abstract

Multipurpose tool is a compact, robust form suitable for emergency repair kits and constitutes an arrangement of two wedge shaped jaws (A, B) hinged together at their smaller extremities (2a, 2b) and tied by a clamping mechanism. A demountable base (4) is rigidly fixed to one jaw (A) and has several apertures (8), each of which receives the other jaw's tapered end (2b). The jaw spacing depends on the aperture (8) employed. The clamping mechanism comprises a slotted tie bar (19) pinned (13) to one jaw (A) and connected via threaded end (23) and handle actuated nut (27) to the other jaw (B). By reversing the jaws a blade (42) on one jaw (A) is exposed so the tool may be used as a plane. The activating handle contains a feeler gauge.
