Abstract
The h.v. switch has a piston and casing to compress an arc extinguishing gas. An insulator is connected to the moving tubular contact and the casing and has a concentric channel through which the extinguishing gas flows. The inner dia. of this channel is equal to the outer dia. of the fixed tubular contact. The insulator bridges the gap between the two contacts when the switch is open. The insulator has a circular blow-out at its upper end and directed inwards and has a circular slot around its inner wall.
