Abstract
Optical information recording device comprise a material sensitive to radiation of wavelength 1.2 mu deposited in a thin layer on a support. The recording of the information is effected by local photothermal ablation of the material under the action of a surface energy density of the order of 5-40 mJ/cm.2, such information can be read directly after recording without subsequent treatment. Specifically, the sensitive material is a vitreous alloy of Te with one or more gp. IIIB, IVB and VB elements. Claimed compsns. comprises 5-60 (15-30) esp. 22% Ge, 40-95 (70-85) esp. 78% Te, the Ge being (partially) replaceable by one or more of Si, Al, Ga, P and As. The material is sensitive to radiation throughout the wavelength range 300 nm. to 1.2 mu.
