Abstract
The system utilises a prim dam (1) at the head of a fluvial valley or similar, including sec submerged barrages (5, 6) for sediment control. A bed level pipe (13) extends between the prim and sec dams, has a controlled inlet (10) upstream of the secondary dam, has an outlet (11, 12) downstream of the primary dam, and is used to divert sediment during spring in addition to catering for dry season flows. A secondary inlet (14) towards the top of the secondary dam also leads to the pipe, being used for flushing purposes. The secondary dam may be sited at an altitude corresponding to the mean of the max water level (8a) and the min. bed level of the reservoir.
