Abstract

A pressurised endless belt screen for sewage sludge dewaters the charged material in a wedge zone between the two endless belts. The top strand in the wedge zone is backed up by a grid of webs and across the direction of the belt motion. The bottom strand of the wedge zone is supported by rollers across the direction of the belt motion. This produces fluid wedges only on the bottom strand so that the water can drain off freely and is not pressed back into the sludge. The squeezing action by the grid pattern of the top belt support has a beneficial action on the dewatering.
