Abstract

The retractable chimney (1) may be used with indoor wood fires, comprising a vertically telescopic smoke gathering hood. Three or four telescopic elements may be utilised being extended by gravity and retracted under the action of a cable (8) suspended fire tray (5) being hoisted to the ceiling. The cables may be replaced by chains (3) in the vicinity of the fire tray which may be guided by a stud-runner in a vertical wall slot (4). The weight of the assembly may be offset by a cable, pulley wheel and counterweight attached to the runner and concealed in a cavity wall.
