Abstract

Additive for cattle feeding supplement is an acidified fat (A) made by treatment with an acid at >=104 degrees C. Pref. an inorganic acid is used at >=1 wt.% on the fat (which may be of animal or vegetable origin) and the treated prod. has pH 4-7. Also new are supplements contg. (A), esp. at >=1.5 wt.%, opt. together with 1-20 wt.% meat meal; 0.1-5 wt.% (NH4)2HPO4 and 0.1-5 wt.% (NH4)2SO4. They may also include >=1 cereal prod. at up to 22 wt.%. (A) reduces consumption of the supplement by cattle so allows it to be given freely without the need for special metering equipment, and without the risk of excessive consumption.
