Abstract

The circuit breaker comprises a cut-off chamber (10) housed inside a casing (12) filled with SF6 and comprising fixed (16) and moving (18) separable contacts, and a self-blasting device (26) with piston and cylinder for compressing the SF6 delimiting a piston-action volume (32), capable of sending a jet of compressed gas towards the cut-off gap (34) in the separated position of the contacts. A collector reservoir (48) recovers the liquefied SF6 at low temperatures, and ducts (50) communicating between the piston-action volume (32) and the reservoir (48) are arranged in such a way that the pressure reduction generated in the piston-action volume (32) during the closure stroke of the moving contact (18) causes the automatic suction of the liquefied gas into this volume (32) provoking a rise in the gas density. This circuit breaker is especially intended for use in regions with harsh climate.
