Abstract

The lever-operated bolt is for use in securing the doors of a mass-transit vehicle at closure and includes a recoil sprung safety catch (10). The catch (10) is an 'L' shaped rocking lever mounted on the hand-lever (2) and engaging a two-step lug (22, 23) on the heel of the bolt (5) towards disengagement and the catch (10) towards the closure position. It is necessary to first depress the catch (10) to effect disengagement of the first step (22) and bring the hand-lever (2) into a partly emerged position whence leverage can be applied. The bolt (5) slides axially in a housing (1) to engage an external staple (6) and as a result of pivoting the hand-lever (2), with a pin (8) engaging a slot (9) in the heel of the bolt. The hand-lever (2) pivots about a fixed (3) axle with the pin (8) and the catch-axle (11) straddling the lever-fulcrum (3) relative to the tip (5) of the bolt.
