Abstract
The furnace contains two gps. (a, b) of beans moving up and down and also reciprocating in the longitudinal direction (1) to move the workpieces through the furnace. At least one gp. (b) has a drive (b1) for the vertical reciprocation, and also a drive (b2) for the longitudinal reciprocation. Drive (b2) is fitted with a reversing device so that, when required, ag. (b) can be reciprocated longitudinally in harmony with gp. (a) so the workpieces are reciprocated in direction (1) without being moved through the furnace. The reversing device pref. includes a time delay switch so there is a pause at each end of the longitudinal stroke of gp. (b), to match the stroke of gp. (a). If there is a breakdown in the processing station which follows the furnace, the workpieces must remain in the furnace; but if the workpieces are stationary in the furnace, local overheating can occur. By reversing drive unit (b), the workpieces are reciprocated in direction (1) without being moved to the furnace exit, so uniform heating is achieved until the breakdown is eliminated.
