Abstract
A device producing images of internal opaque structures uses ultrasonic waves. It enables continuous visible display of heterogeneous body sections contg. discontinuities which are able to move. In an medical application it minimises the cross-section of the body covered by the ultrasound whilst achieving customary power levels. The ultrasonic probe has oscillators arranged in a row or pattern as a curved surface. By switching electronically between oscillators an angular range is covered and ultrasonic wave beams are generated which converge in a defined region. A screen opaque to ultrasound and having a central aperture is placed in the region of convergence.
