Abstract

The cartridge case (1) as used in a shot gun is conventional construction with a powdered explosive charge (3) behind a wad (4). The wad is made of plastics material with openings (10, 11) between three partitions (6-8), forming three gas filled cushions between the charge and the bullet (5). The latter is of soft metal, with a hole through the centre, and with three crests (14-16) around its outside. The wad has a sealing lip (12) at its outer end, extending towards the bullet, and enclosing its inner extremity. In another design this sealing lip can extend towards a sleeve holding a charge of lead shot.
