Abstract

The solar heater contains pipes which are transparent and flexible and are curled round on themselves so that they touch each other, thus using the minimum of space. Several alternative arrangements are described. The tubes can be curled round upon themselves in a flat plane or mounted in a spiral on a rod. Several such spirals can be mounted in an outer case with their axes parallel. Alternatively the tubes can be wound on a bell-shaped core and covered by a double walled dome which lets solar radiation pass through. The equipment is relatively small, gives a good heat yield in a large volume of water and is simple and cheap both to make and mount. The form of the equipment removes the necessity of providing means of orientating the heater to the sun.
