Abstract

The liq. is passed through a passage of constant cross-section. Reagents are injected into the passage at spaced locations. Downstream from each injection location, static mixer elements on the interior of the passage wall create turbulence to provide good contacting between waste water and the injected reagent. Turbulence results from flow of the waste water itself through the passage. The passage pref. follows a zig-zag path made up of a number of parallel, straight runs of pipe joined by return bends, A static mixer section is pref. fitted after each return bend. The passage is pref. a tube of circular cross-section. The static mixer elements are pref. helical vanes which can be right-hand and/or left hand in combination. Useful e.g. for coagulation, flocculation, pH adjustment etc. Very efficient contacting of waste water with reagents is ensured without any need for moving agitators. Turbulent mixing is achieved by the liq. being passed through static mixers.
