Abstract

The functioning of electrolysis rectifiers are maintained during voltage reductions or short interruptions in supply. To reduce the excess current which occurs when the supply returns to normal, and thus eliminating the need to disconnect the rectifier, a cut-out switch is used with a changing time of less than two seconds which does not operate when the voltage reduction or interruption is very short. The excess current which occurs when the supply returns is detected by a current transducer and communicated to automatic charge control circuits which produce a reduction in the electric charge using coils. The circuits incorporate a cut-out switch which modifies its position until the current is re-established at the normal level without damaging the electrolysis equipment. It is unnecessary to disconnect groups of rectifiers and to stop the electrolysis. The necessity of removing and neutralising products containing an unacceptable content of impurities is avoided. The time and effort requried for readjustment after each voltage variation is avoided, as is loss of production.
