Abstract

Container for transporting hydrocarbons and other materials in convoy by sea comprises a floating construction made up of (a) tank, (b) a protecting sleeve and (c) an outer envelope. The material of the tank is selected for each case depending on the chemical nature of the contents. Pref. it is a light Al alloy or glass fibre or other synthetic material used for making tubes and tanks for liquids and gases. The protecting sleeve is made for a porous, extensible material e.g. polyethylene foam. The outer envelope is made from a rubber-based material or an equivalent synthetic cpd. to ensure buoyancy and resistance to shock. The containers are readily manoeuvred and discharged Maintenance is facilitated and safety is increased.
