Abstract
The single cylinder internal combustion engine has its piston fitted with twin connecting rods (3, 4), mounted on the same gudgeon pin. Each con rod big end (5) drives a separate crankshaft (6), these rotating in bearings (7, 10) forming the mobile lower part of the engine. Each crankshaft has a bevel gear (8, 11) in mesh with a ring gear (12) on each side, crankshaft rotation imparting epicyclic rolling motion. This drives the mobile crankshaft bearing housing (16), in line with the piston, in a rotary motion. Two stroke admission and exhaust ports (18, 19) are provided in the cylinder walls or its liner; alternatively, valves for four stroke operation are fitted.
