Abstract

Plant for casting small amts. of metal held in a refractory tank with a bottom outlet hole (a) mating with a similar hole (b) in a refractory plate (b). A mould plate (c) has a sealed contact surface mating with plate (b), and plate (c) can be moved along a linear horizontal path. Plate (c) contains a row of equispaced mould cavities successively fed under holes (a, b) for filling the cavities. Plate (c) pref. consists of an upper plate (c1) made of cast iron and contg. numerous tapering polygonal holes closed by a baseplate (c2) made of graphite or cast iron. The tapering holes in plate (c1) pref. have a ratio, top dia. :bottom dia. between 1:1.1 and 1:1.3. Used for mfr. of small metal castings, esp. of ferroalloys used in the mfr. of iron or steel.
