Abstract

An inductor (22) and a main thyristor (12) are connected in series with the consumer (23). A series circuit comprising a diode (13) and a capacitor (20) is connected in parallel with the aforementioned series circuit. A further diode (14) and the series circuit comprising a gate turn-off thyristor (16) and an additional diode (15) is connected between the connection point between this diode (13) and the capacitor (20) and the cathode of the main thyristor (12). A series resonant circuit comprising a further capacitor (17) and a coil (18) is disposed in parallel with the gate turn-off thyristor (16). The cathode of a free-running diode (19) is connected to the cathode of the gate turn-off thyristor (16) and the anode of the free-running diode (19) is connected to the negative terminal of the DC supply voltage. The diode (13) prevents the capacitor (20) from being discharged due to supply voltage dips, with the result that the full charge power of this capacitor (20) is available for the turn-off procedure of the main thyristor (12).
