Abstract

The pontoon with floating road-ways permits the loading and unloading of merchant shipping at otherwise inaccessible but protected coastal locations. The pontoon can be moved from location to location and transports the floating roads in a standardised components. The floating road components may comprise a land caisson subsidiary pier-pontoons, and bridge-deck sections, and each component may be mounted on wheels. In plan view, a completed installation may be of a triangular form with two roads extending from the shore to converge on the pontoon at the apex.
