Abstract

An insulated electrical cable has an exterior semi-conducting layer extruded onto an insulating layer, pref. polyethylene. This semi-conducting layer is made from a mixt. of 70-90 pts. wt. of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, with vinyl acetate content 15-55%, and 30-10 pts. wt. chlorosulphonated polyethylene, and is cross-linked after extrusion, together with the insulating layer in a vulcanisation tube. The semi-conducting layer has heat-resisting properties as good as the insulating layer, but does not adhere to it. This facilitates splicing and end prepn. of the cable. The cable is used as transporting medium for high tension electricity.
