Abstract
High voltage power cable has an electrostatic shield of metal in the form of a strip folded longitudinally so that edges are free to move relatively and accommodate thermal expansion. The cable conductor, or each conductor has an insulation layer between two semiconducting shielding layers. For smaller cables the shield may be plain, and for larger cables is corrugated circumferentially. The strip e.g. of Al, Cu, brass or steel is coated with poly ethylene, PVC or ethylene propylene rubber. An outer insulation jacket is extruded on. The cable does not distort under high temps., the shield has lower resistance and reactance path and accepts charging currents from the semi-conducting layer.
