Abstract

The screw (1) is used to attach the thin panel (2) by screwing the threaded shank into a tapped hole. The screw (1) is retained with the panel (2) by the plastic retainer (4) which has a flanged head (5) and two spring fingers (6) formed by longitudinal slots (7). The fingers (6) terminate in claws (9) which grip the neck (10) of the screw (1). The retainer (4) is pushed through the hole (3) in the panel (2) with the spring fingers (9) being first compressed inwards and then sprung outwards so that the upper edges fit under the surface of the panel (2). The screw (1) is then inserted until its neck (10) is gripped by the claws (9). A ridge (12) on the flange (5) of the retainer (4) forms a seal with the undersurface of the head (1a).
