Abstract

1,004,258. Stud and socket fasteners. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1964 [Feb. 5, 1963], No. 4578/63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] A resilient one piece grommet for use in sealing the shank 7 of a headed fastener in an aperture in a panel 13 comprises a cylindrical part 15 and a washer part 17. The cylindrical part projects through the aperture and has a peripheral barb 19 which engages the opposite side of the panel there being provided at least one finger 21 which engages a shoulder or the like on the shank 7 to prevent removal of the fastener from the aperture. The washer part 17 is inclined to the cylindrical part 15 so that the inner periphery engages the head 5 of the fastener and its outer periphery engages the surface of the panel 13, subsequent movement of the head towards the panel causing the washer part to bend and seal the aperture. The fingers 21 flex outwardly when the fastener is inserted in the aperture.
