Abstract

In an aq. coating compsn. consisting of a binder, opt. organic solvent and the usual auxiliaries, the binder consists of adducts of a liquid polybutadiene with is not 50% cis-1,4-structure and an ethylenically unsatd. dicarboxylic cpd. The adducts are (partly) neutralised with basic cpds., water-soluble and/or water-dispersible and amidised and/or imidised. Used for coating metals, e.g. steel, by spreading, immersion or the electrophoretic process. The compsn. has good drying properties and flow and gives coatings with good hardness, elasticity and waterproofness and excellent adhesion to the substrate and corrosion resistance. In an example, a polybutadiene adduct with maleic anhydride was amidised with n-butylamine and neutralised with dimethylaminoethanol.
