Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a colored perfect coating type insol. chromate film on the surface a metal by using a coloring bath obtd. by dispersing a pigment in a chemical treating bath based on a water sol. high molecular cpd. which can chelate bond with chromium ions, a chromate and a polyhydric phenol. CONSTITUTION:An org. pigment, carbon black, or the like having an average grain size not more than 0.5mu and specific gravity not more than 2 is uniformly dispersed in a chemical treating bath based on a water sol. high molecular compd. having groups which can chelate bond with chromium ions, e.g. a maleic acid copolymer, poly(meth)acrylic acid, polyacrylamide or polyvinyl alcohol, a water sol. chromium compd. such as ammonium chromate. and a polyhydric phenol such as pyrogallol or gallic acid. the resulting coloring bath is coated onto the surface of a metal and dried to form a corrosion resistant colored chromate film. The blending ratio of each component is as follows; the high molecular compd. 0.5-4%, the chromate 0.1-10% and the phenol 0.01-5%, and the pigment is desirable to be 0.1-1.0 to vehicle 1.
