Abstract

The combustion chamber is formed in the cylinder head and has a semicircular cross section and a cylinder segment base surface. The fuel injection nozzle is inclined to the combustion chamber or axis to direct the fuel spray on to the scavenge air deflector surface (15) and parallel to the combustion chamber inner surface (14). The spark plug electrodes are fitted in the upper section of the combustion chamber away from the fuel injection spray but in the turbulence region. The combustion chamber dia. is pref. less than one third of the cylinder bore dia. The combustion chamber vol. is at least 75 per cent of the entire compression vol.
