Abstract

The rotary spit has a demountable support frame of rectangular hollow section members and is designed to support whole meat or poultry joints over the fire. The support frame is a rectangular portal (12, 14, 40, 42) on a 'U' shaped base f mee (16, 18, 32, 34). The bar (40, 42) of the portal is rotated by an electric motor (60) and inc. adjustable spikes which secure the joint. The frame members are jointed by mortice and tenon type joints. The 'U' shaped base frame lies on the ground and the bar may be of two interconnected lengths (32, 34). The legs (16, 18) of the 'U' may be of an inverted 'T' shape in elevation with the stem forming a socket receiving the foot of a portal post (12, 14). The bearings of the split bar may be provided on sliding cantilever brackets which are set at the required height by cranked pins in a selected post hole (74).
