Abstract

The demountable chair comprises four legs (25), a seat (10), and a back rest (20, 21) of inverted 'U' form which are fastened together by mechanical connectors. The seat (10) is of approx. square plan form and has sockets (16) which receive and locate the ends (27, 28) of the legs (25) and backrest posts (21). The leg end sockets are sited at each corner on the undersize (11) of the seat board (10) and the backrest post sockets on the top side (15) on a common vertical axis with the rear leg socket. The connectors may comprise bolts (29) which project axially from the heads of the leg members (25), and screw into ferrules which are built into the seat. The bolts associated with the rear legs may be of sufficient length to pass through the seat and engage threaded sleeves which are built axially into the bases of the back rest posts. The sockets may be of truncated cone-form and receive reciprocal leg end projections (28).
