STORAGE CRIB Filed April 10, 1947 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 fig .6? I Q9 K q INVENTOR.
' izizelfiieizeizaz ATTCI RN EYB Patented June 19, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE STORAGE CRIB Elmer E. Lankenau, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Application April 10, 1947, Serial No. 740,605
1 Claim.
My present invention relates to an improved storage crib of the type designed for use in storing feed such as corn by utilizing a wall structure which may be of the snow fence type including spaced staves or palings secured by interwoven wires.
The invention also includes securing rings for the upper and lower edges of the wall structure and braces, together with a roof device.
A door and frame are fixed within the lower portion of the crib providing access thereto and the crib may be .built by unskilled labor in a minimum of time.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevatio-nal view of the crib.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view at 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the wall structure.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view thereof.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view at line 55 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view at line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view at line 1'| of Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view through the frame rings showing the securing means therefor.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a portion of the door frame.
Referring now to the drawings I have illustrated the present embodiment of my invention as comprising a base 2 upon supports 4 of suitable type and material.
The crib includes cylindrical wall elements consisting in spaced slats or palings 6 secured by twisted wires 8 and I0 and the ends of the cylindrical wall are located in the rings l2 having a circular recess M. The upper ring of the lower section and the lower ring of the upper section are secured together as by bolts or rivets I6 and diagonal braces l8 secured at 20 intermediate thereof are provided to insure stability.
A conical roof 22 is supported upon rafters 24.
A door 26 having a handle 28 is vertically slidable in the flanges 30 of the frame 32 and the crib is ready for use to discharge feed through chute 34.
In the wall structure there may be used a snow fence, or a structure similar thereto, and in either use the spaced slats permit circulation of air while confining the stored feed, and the structure will be easy to assemble and inexpensive to maintain.
The frame rings may be of suitable material as metal as are the braces and the slats are normally of low cost wood in thin strips.
Having thus fully described my inventionv what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A corn crib comprising upper and lower cylindrical wall elements comprising relatively spaced slats secured in spaced relation to each other by means of twisted wires, which are secured to the slats in spaced horizontal relation to each other, U-shaped retaining rings adapted to receive the upper periphery of the upper wall elements and the lower periphery of the lower wall elements, a pair of U-shaped retaining rings having their bights secured together to form an H-shaped retaining ring so that the lower periphery of the upper wall elements are received in the upper U- shaped retaining ring and the upper periphery of the lower wall elements are received in the lower U-shaped retaining ring, a conical roof mounted on the upper U-shaped retaining ring and a base engaging the lower U-shaped retaining ring and diagonal braces secured together at their central portions in criss-cross relation to each other with the upper ends of the brace members engaging the roof and the lower ends of the brace members engaging the base for stabilizing the wall elements and an access door in the lower wall elements.
