Abstract
The ignition device for the main charge of e.g. a solid fueled rocket, has a primary charge (10) and an arming charge (20). The primary charge has a first part (12) ignited by an electric resistance wire, followed by a second explosive part (14). These are housed inside a sleeve (11) with an end (15) which is easily separated due to a line of weakness (16) around it. The arming charge is at right angles, and in line with this end piece. This also has an electrically ignited part (22) and a second part (23) which operates a piston (26) which is then forced against the end of the sleeve (15) forcing it into a cavity (19), leaving the main channel (18) clear for the primary charge.
