Abstract

Prodn. of separate knitted articles is carried out by knitting them in a continuous string by incorporating a thermoplastic pull thread between every two articles, and destroying the pull thread connections afterwares. The pull threads consist of a highly oriented polymer with a yield point below 135 degrees C and a breaking strength at normal temp. of more than 2 g/dinier, pref. a polyamide terpolymer. The end sections of the pull thread which are knitted into adjacent articles are destroyed by subjecting them to hot air or steam at a temp. sufficient to soften the pull thread without damaging the yarn of which the knitted articles themselves are made. Pref. immediately after applying hot air or steam, the first article is accelerated relative to the next to apply tensile stress to all remaining pull thread portions.
